27 & 28 wks + sick kids

After getting back together as a family, I had another ultrasound to pick up the things they couldn't get from the 20wk ultrasound because the baby was moving around so much. This time, we got to see the "kissy face" shot, which is pretty sweet, really. Later in the week, we also had Jack's 5yo check-up - all's well! - and I had my glucose screening for gestational diabetes. Since drinking that awful dyed drink with as much sugar as 3 cokes in only about 8oz while pregnant with Paul, I've opted out of it. I do still do the screening, of course, but with Ada I drank a certain amount of grape juice, and with Jack, Pip, and now Cinco, I've had a certain amount of pancakes (with the syrup, they remind me) at a certain time before getting the blood drawn. It was delicious ... and then pretty simple and smooth with all 4 kids to the labs at the hospital. They love coming, ha! We also had City Park's "Friends Fest" mid-week where we* get to go on the amusement park rides, which is always super fun and was missed last year. Jack even got to ride the roller coaster this year for the first time!
(*if one is not pregnant, of course; however, if one is in fact pregnant, one is limited to the train, much to the pleasure of a certain 2yo.)

Siblings? (re: hand placement)
On the train with my girls
On the train with my boys

Summer fun must also always include ice cream and snoballs, naturally, so those were thrown into the mix, too

Then later in the week, Ada started getting a little something ... running a 100+ fever, coughing, head congestion, went through an entire box of tissues and even slept in the guest room to both rest when she needed and not keep others up with coughing. My mind started wandering to covid, of course, after being away at a camp around dozens of other children for the first time in over a year. Uncle/Doctor Pete chuckled and said something to the effect of poor homeschooled babes bumping elbows with ruffians; ha. Ada even had to miss a Little Flowers meeting, which was disappointing. Towards the weekend, Dylan felt a little funny but just for a day; and I woke up with just a hint of a sore throat that quickly went away. But poor Jack went down as soon as Ada's fever subsided. Her cough and head/nose trouble lingered a while, but she was back to herself once her fever left, and Jack followed suit. Dylan and I were both grateful that it mostly skipped Paul for some reason! He usually gets these awful croupy coughs any time anything happens with a post-nasal drip, but he was chipper and had a stuffy nose just one day. After that - and we're on to about day 6 or 7 since Ada - peachy Pip got sick, and, oh my, the world ended. She whined and whined and was such a sad, sorry case that I both simultaneously pitied and resented her. She couldn't take the same meds as the others to cope with symptoms, and she can't manage her own stuffy nose like a big kid, either, and somehow having sweet do-it-herself Ada get sick first was the spoiling I did not need. It was so hard to have patience with a pathetic little Pippa! When she was just cuddly and out of sorts, sure, no problem, but when she tossed out a typical tantrum + nose gunk + screaming + coughing + night waking, nuh-UH, I wondered if we'd survive.

Obviously we have, praise God, and we even celebrated Dylan's 38th in the midst of it, and we tested negative for covid, so all good things. The stress of wondering about this new Delta variant + if I'd get it and how that'd go while pregnant was enough to drive me nuts. Hindsight, I could've handled things with a little more grace, but ya don't know that when you're in it, do ya? Sigh.

Dylan's birthday was fun - we sat outside at a local brewery and watched the Germany-England Euro Cup 2020 game. Almost like old times ;)
